Nursing history and ethics:
1. Applies the scope of practice effectively
2. Implements the Code of Ethics meaningfully and effectively
3. Carries her responsibilities towards the employer, patients, co-workers and SANC effectively
4. Outlines the overview of nursing history
5. Be up-to date with current issues influencing nursing

Elementary nutrition:

1. Prepares a well balanced diet
2. Teaches family on nutritional requirements effectively
3. Respects cultural beliefs on types and ways of food preparation
4. Disinfects equipment and environment
5. Considerate on feeding needs

First aid:
1. Practices safe CPR technique
2. Considers safety of children and the aged
3. Practices safe delivery of a baby
4. Safely implements the general principles of first aid

Elementary anatomy and physiology:
1. Identifies alterations in body structure
2. Integrates scientific knowledge to basic nursing care

Introduction to comprehensive health care:
1. Implements hygiene practices
2. Practice aseptic technique efficiently
3. Recognises common communicable diseases and conducts relevant patient education
4. Differentiates on the levels of prevention
5. Advises on appropriate referral centres
6. Educate patients and groups on health care

Basic nursing care:
1. Applies the scientific approach to nursing effectively
2. Identifies deficits in the essentials for daily living
3. Renders basic nursing care of man in al stages
4. Maintains safe practices during patient care
5. Differentiates medicines according to legislation
6. Assist with the fulfilment of body needs

Practical nursing:
1. Assist in the care of the patient at home
2. Useful in identifying deficits of resources
3. Useful to the family during home visits
4. Compassionate during stressful clinical investigations

6. Displays proficiency in basic nursing skills
7. Applies relevant knowledge to clinical practice

Integrated assessment:

1). Continuous assessment:

Theory:
Eight – evaluations will be conducted
Four – will be quantitative from both fundamental and core nursing assessing specific outcomes
Two – will be individual projects assessing critical cross-field outcomes
Two – will be group projects assessing critical cross-field outcomes

The average mark will give a year mark

Practical:
36 procedures will be demonstrated and supervised
15 procedures will be assessed continuously until competency in exit-level outcomes is achieved

2). Formative assessment:

Written portion:
Quantitative evaluation
Questions
30% of the paper will constitute Fundamental Nursing
70% of the paper will constitute Core Nursing
This distribution will be based on the number of credits

Number of questions
Four questions will be set
Two from Fundamental Nursing
Two from Core Nursing

Marks:
Two questions will carry 10 marks
Two questions will carry 15 marks

Total will be 50 marks

Qualitative evaluation:
Evaluation tools will be designed for

Individual projects
These will evaluate the individual in the critical cross-field outcomes

Group projects:
These will evaluate the individual in the group structure using the assessment criteria from critical cross-field outcomes

Examination:
One three-hour paper, covering all the learning areas. It will be set by the SANC

Practical portion:
Evaluation tools will be used in which assessment criteria will be observed during learner performance to assess competency in exit-level outcomes
Assessment criteria will cover the following:
Knowledge – the extent of integration of knowledge from fundamental learning areas with core learning

Psycho-motor skills – specific outcomes will be evaluated through assessment criteria designed for each specific skill on evaluation tools

Values and attitudes – demonstrated during interaction with a patient and with colleagues in the course of carrying out their duties

Final evaluation – both qualitative and quantitative evaluation will be used
