Integrated assessment appropriately incorporated to ensure that the purpose of the qualification is achieved:

Assessment seeks to (1) evaluate learner performance in order to determine whether learners comply with assessment criteria; and (2) encourage and guide the improvement of learner performance. Assessment is therefore based on the principle of continuous and regular assessment and complete and prompt feedback. Assessment consists of two components, formative assessment and summative assessment.

Formative assessment practices that will be implemented:

Formative assessment is aimed at the development of a life-long learning culture based on continuous self-study. More particularly, in this qualification, formative assessment aims at the preparation of learners for writing assignments/reports and an examination at the end of each one of the two subject-related study cycles of two modules each (i.e. at the end both of the two labour law-related modules and the two social security law-related modules). Formative assessment is conducted by way of class discussions, seminars and the writing of assignments/reports. Discussions of assignment/report and examination results and questions and other forms of feedback are an integral and critical
part of assessment.

Summative assessment practices that will be implemented:

Both in the examinations at the end of each subject-related (i.e. labour law and social security) study cycles (two modules each) and in the assignments/reports, learners are assessed on their ability to integrate prior knowledge gained in preceding studies with an advanced knowledge of relevant topics dealt with in the course of the qualification. The purpose is to demonstrate a reflective and scholarly understanding of labour law and social security law and of the relevant research topic. In conjunction with formative assessment, summative assessment determines whether the learner is awarded the qualification. In the summative assessment, the two subject-related examinations are examined by a panel of not less than two examiners (see moderation options). The qualification is obtained if the learner passes both subject-related examinations, with reference to the final mark obtained, based on both the assignment/report and actual examination mark.
