The student will provide evidence of competencies, knowledge and attitudes through:

Utilising the psychological framework for understanding human behaviour and implications for the educational process;
Applying the knowledge of behavioural dynamics, physical, psychological, cognitive and moral development in education;
Enhancing learning and motivation in learners;
Measuring learning outcomes through formative and summative assessment;
Utilising teaching strategies that can enhance retention and learning;
Integrating the information-processing model in planning of teaching strategies;
Exhibiting the characteristics and skills of a learning accompanist;
Applying the principles of adult learning to facilitate deep holistic life-long learning;
Utilising the characteristics of adult learning in creating an andragogic didactic context;

Identifying health needs/strengths and apply facilitating skills related to;
Explaining of minor physical ailments, prevalent communicable and non-communicable diseases, chronic diseases and emergencies;
Identifying of health needs of the mother, child and women’s health including antenatal to postnatal care and reproductive health;
Identifying of health needs/strengths of school child, adolescent, adult worker, the aged and the disabled;
Identifying and utilising applicable health and related resources;
Utilising the appropriate technology for comprehensive care.

PLANNING:

Facilitating health promotion programmes with regard to the individual, family and community;

Integrating comprehensive primary health care services that include the individual, the family and the community;

Planning the enhancement of community development and participation of all groups in the community;

Referral and inter-sectoral collaboration within the community.

IMPLEMENTATION OF:

Preventive, promotive, curative and rehabilitative health care for the individual, family and community;
Planned health promotion programmes;
Comprehensive primary health care;
Community development programmes and community participation;
Epidemiological studies;

EVALUATING:

Of the process and outcomes of the planned and implemented health care programs and strategies in the community.

DOCUMENTING

Assessment and diagnosis of individuals, families, groups and community;
Implementation and outcomes of planned comprehensive health services.

ORGANISING HEALTH SERVICES REGARDING THE UTILIZATION OF PERSONNEL, EQUIPMENT, FINANCES, SUPPLIES TECHNOLOGY AND PROPER DOCUMENTATION

Conducting a community survey to meet the health needs of the community;
Managing and handling needs and disaster situation in the community setting with appropriate referral and discharge plan of the individual, family and community;
Determining the roles of various groups in the community with regard to disaster situations;
Collaborating between the social cultural and spiritual sectors and resources within a comprehensive primary health care context.

EXERCISING LEADERSHIP SKILLS TO DIRECT GROUP ACTIVITIES IN A COMPREHENSIVE COMMUNITY SETTING

Acting as a change agent in enhancing change in the community;
Using systematic and goal directed processes in the community;
Implementing the appropriate model to enhance change in the community;
Recognising the socio-economical and political influences of health of the community.

IMPLEMENTING A COMPREHENSIVE PRIMARY HEALTH CARE SERVICE ACCORDING TO THE NATIONAL HEALTH POLICY AND OCMPONENTS OF COMPREHENSIVE PRIMARY HEALTH CARE SERVICE

Functioning as a member of the multi-professional team within the ethical, legal and social framework of the practice of community nursing;
Demonstrating and showing awareness and cultural sensitivity behaviour in community nursing practice;
Identifying and evaluating the influences of international health organisations and health systems on the South African National Health Services.

WORKING EFFECTIVELY AS A MEMBER OF THE MULTI-PROFESSIONAL TEAM

Managing inter-sectoral collaboration to promote Primary Health Care;
Developing networking strategies in the community and concerned health groups
