” The ability to diagnose, investigate and treat orthopaedic problems and diseases at a specialist level. This would include sound judgement pre-operative care, manipulative treatment, surgery and post-operative care.
Integrated Assessment:
1. Certification by the programme convenor that the candidate has undergone 12 months’ training, including 6 months in the Intensive Care Unit, 6 months in Trauma and / or 6 months in General Surgery.
2. Certification by the programme convenor of having completed a minimum of 4 years of specialised surgical training, allowing the candidate to sit for the Part II of the FCS (SA) Orthopaedic Surgery examination with the College of Medicine. Credit is given towards the MMed of the College examinations passed.
3. The presentation of a dissertation on an aspect of surgical research in addition to 1 and 2.
