1. Assessment:

Implementation:

Notify the registered nurse of changes in needs of a patient.

Evaluation:
Report observations and progress with regard to the nursing care plan.

Evaluation instruments:
The evaluation of basic clinical procedures in stages during the training period (listed as an addendum).
A pass mark of 50% is required for each clinical evaluation.

2. Accurately document assessment data on the nursing records;
Report documented information to other colleagues using the relevant channels;
Record assessment data on the appropriate records.

Learners will be assessed in writing on the interpretation, reporting and documentation.
Learners will be assessed in writing on the requirements of record keeping.

The evaluation documents specific to each of the basic clinical procedures has documentation criteria that will be assessed (listed as an addendum).
A pass mark of 50% is required for each clinical evaluation.

3. Disaster care plan is described correctly;
First aid is described correctly.

*Assessment Guideline:
Learners will be assessed in writing on the disaster plan;
Learners will be assessed in writing on First Aid.
A pass mark of 50% is required for theory.

Evaluation instruments:
Each first aid intervention is demonstrated to the evaluator for assessment.

4. Observation of teamwork in the health care setting;
The multidisciplinary health care team is described correctly;
The role of the auxiliary nurse within the multidisciplinary health care team is described correctly.

*Assessment Guideline:
Learners will be assessed in writing on the multidisciplinary health care team;
Learners will be assessed in writing on the role of the auxiliary nurse.
A pass mark of 50% is required for theory.

5. The legal parameters in the provision of health care are correctly described;
Produce a record of continuing education and in-service training.

*Assessment Guideline:
Learners will be assessed in writing on the Nursing Act, the Regulations as well as the Code of Ethics applicable to the enrolled nurse.
A pass mark of 50% is required for theory.

Evaluation:
Evaluation on team leadership and functioning as a team member is completed by the professional nurse in the form of a unit report.
The record of continuing education and in-service training will be assessed by the course leader.

6. Advocacy is described accurately;
Advocacy for the rights of patients, families and communities in the provision of comprehensive nursing care is described correctly.

*Assessment Guideline:
Learners will be assessed in writing on advocacy;
Learners will be assessed in writing on the rights of the patient, the family and the community.
A pass mark of 50% is required for theory.

7. The potential legal risks are described correctly;
The prevention of legal risks is described correctly;
The potential occupational health and safety risks are described correctly.

*Assessment Guideline:
Learners will be assessed in writing on legal risks;
Learners will be assessed in writing on the occupational health and safety risks in the workplace.
A pass mark of 50% is required for theory.

Integrated assessment:

Formative evaluation:
Simulation;
Workplace assessments and practica;
Written tests;
Oral tests;
Clinical workbooks;
Projects and seminars;
Competency evaluation of basic clinical nursing skills;
Problem based learning.

Summative evaluation:
External examinations and moderators.
