Assessment criteria associated with Critical Cross-Field Outcomes:
1. Render quality patient/client care using systematic scientific knowledge and technology applicable to Primary Health care;
Manage complex clinical problems using a wide variety of theories, critical and creative thinking;
Investigate and solve identified patient/client needs and problems.
2. Enhance effective utilisation of other health team members;
Set and monitor nursing care standards;
Act as a resource consultant to health team members and service consumers;
Provide a cost-effective service.
3. Analyse the national Health Plan and present recommendations on Community Development and Health Service delivery process.
4. Develop research proposals;
Understand and interpret research data and report in clinical management and effective management of a health clinic;
Demonstrate the understanding of the community profile one serves;
Utilise statistical and qualitative data to evaluate the service rendered.
5. Collaborate with stakeholders in the implementation of Primary Health Care;
Provide an equitable distribution of health care resources based on the six principles of service delivery, i.e.:
* accessibility;
* acceptability;
* appropriateness;
* efficiency;
* affordability;
* community participation.
Demonstrate the understanding of the “Bill of Rights” when dealing with individuals, families and communities.
Assessment criteria associated with Specific Outcomes:
1. Demonstrate competence in assessment, diagnosis and management of the common diseases and conditions for all age groups;
Demonstrate the ability to deal with trauma and emergency situations.
2. Formulate the purpose, philosophy and objectives for a health service;
Compile policies and procedure manuals;
Apply the principles of unit organisation.
3. Identify factors in the environment that have an influence on the health of individual family and community;
Identify researchable problems and develop research proposals;
Use existing research instruments, collect and analyse data, interpret findings and make recommendations;
Negotiate/facilitate the implementation of relevant research results;
Liaise with community leaders and other torch bearers before and during the implementation of research recommendations and other changes.
4. Outline the components of the National Health Care System of South Africa;
Refer identified problems appropriately to members of the multidisciplinary team.
5. Identify health related problems in the environment;
Use knowledge and experience of environmental health to offer suggestions for solving health related problems in the community.
Integrated assessment to ensure that the total purpose of the qualification is achieved:
Continuous assessment:
mentorship;
individualisation;
supervision.
Formative assessment:
OSCA;
tests;
assignments;
theoretical examination.
Summative assessment:
practical examination: OSCE;
research presentation.
