i. By: Writing research proposals that indicate that learners are able to identify a problem or problems in music and musicology, formulating research problems and subjects of problems, and suggesting possible solutions to the problem(s)
formulating hypotheses
knowledge selecting and utilising research instruments that are relevant in the research of a specific problem in music and musicology;
selecting and using appropriate data analysis methods to interpret the findings of the investigation;
conducting fieldwork during the actual investigation
evaluating and interpreting findings
reporting the findings of the investigation, and formulating recommendations that emanate from the findings
creating a new model that can be applied to solve the problem investigated.
ii. By: identifying and analysing different scientific procedures in terms of the problem being researched
iii. By: critically reading, interpreting and analysing literature from different sources;
searching for literature on the identified research problem comparing the writings of different authors on the same related topic synthesising reading material on the topic being researched
drawing conclusions from different readings and indicating anomalies; creating a framework provided by the literature review creating a new model/approach/theory that is applicable to the research problem compiling a complete bibliography and reference list
iv. By: writing a thesis that shows that the learner can express her/himself clearly;
writing a thesis that is linguistically correct, acceptable, and of very high standard;
writing a thesis that is technically well presented and has an acceptable layout.
