1. A candidate will be able to practice on a highly specialised level as a Community Pharmacist in providing a comprehensive pharmaceutical service in the community pharmaceutical environment.
The professional roles include the following:
Management of a pharmacy / pharmaceutical services;
Ensure quality use of medicine;
Provide pharmacist initiated therapy;
Provide medicine information and education;
Promote public health in the community;
Promote effective communication;
Provide pharmaceutical care.
2. Hospital pharmacy
A candidate will be competent to practice on a highly specialised level as a Hospital Pharmacist in providing a comprehensive pharmaceutical service in the hospital environment.
The professional roles include the following;
Management of specialised hospital services;
Organise and control hospital-level manufacturing and/or compounding;
Organise, procurement, storage and distribution of pharmaceuticals in the hospital environment;
Ensure optimal hospital dispensing practise;
Provide pharmaceutical care in hospitals;
Provide effective information and education systems in the hospital environment;
Promote public health in hospitals.
3. Industrial pharmacy
A candidate will be competent to practice, as a scientist with special knowledge of the technology and skills required in the pharmaceutical industry.
The professional roles include the following:
Formulation, manufacturing and distribution of pharmaceutical products.
Control the safety, effectiveness and quality of pharmaceutical products.
Fulfil the broad spectrum of professional roles required for good pharmacy practice.
Pharmaceutical management with regard to human resources, accounting and marketing.
Pharmaceutical quality assurance and control.
Integrated Assessment:
A module mark is obtained through assignments and tasks related to the contents of each module as well as a written examination in each module.
The following quality assurance procedures are part of the overall evaluation of the qualifications:
Internal examiners and moderators.
External examiners and moderators.
PCSA moderation.
