1. Use knowledge and experience to develop problem solving strategies to deal with identified problems within her levels of competence

2. Actively and harmoniously participate in working groups and group discussions

Apply cognitive processes to function in the health care team

Apply knowledge of socio-cultural issues to communicate effectively with members of the health care team.

Demonstrate a non-judgemental and positive attitude towards other members of the health team

3. Utilise appropriate knowledge and skills in managing basic nursing care

Demonstrate coping skills and stress management strategies in order to function effectively in the health care environment

4. Critically analyse and integrate collected data on which to base decisions within her scope of practice

INTEGRATED ASSESSMENT

While assessment will include the assessment of discrete skills and knowledge within units of learning, ultimately the assessment:

1. Must be applied to the specific role that the practitioner will play

2. Must be demonstrated in a integrative manner

3. Include the learner’s ability to carry out the practitioner’s role in an authentic context

4. Include a demonstration of the learner’s ability to adapt practice to meet changing circumstances

5. Is based on the principle of continuous assessment provided through:

Portfolios
Simulations
Workplace assessments and practical workbooks
Written assignments
Written tests
Case studies and case presentations
Peer-group evaluation
Competency evaluations of clinical skills
Face to face contact with learners

Include Summative assessment- the examination consists of the following two portions:

A written portion conducted by the South African Nursing Council and consisting of one paper of three hour’s duration on the subject, and

A practical portion conducted by Empilweni Education Nurse Educators on behalf of the South African Nursing Council.
