Assessment Criteria associated with Specific Outcomes:

1. In the form of task in study material, written and oral assignments, projects, case studies, PBL, tests, examinations, accompaniment, the learner will be assessed on their ability to:
Recognise, identify problems in various conditions, assess underlying factors, plan appropriate nursing action; implement the plan using appropriate authority when the need arises.

2. Shows/demonstrates respect and dignity for all members (team), clients, patients.
Develop awareness of diversity in culture and different needs.
Identifies possible problem areas and facilitates better communication.
Plans for necessary facilities to improve the environment.
Contributes to effective communication.
Maintains privacy and confidentiality as the patient’s/client’s constitutional right.

3. Relates learning gained from individual and professional experience.
Relates the above to different health related contexts using scenarios.
Reflect on personal or professional experience and applies to manage her own life and those entrusted to her.
Make connections to health problems of individuals, groups and families.

4. Identifies various resources, material, human for data collection.
Uses the different resources to tap the information she needs and seeks.
Gathers all information and collects them to analyse them.
Interprets the findings and applies where appropriate to further her studies, knowledge for assignments, projects, reports, exams, statistics, etc.
Orders and fits them for further references.
Applies information relevant to provide quality nursing care.
Shares gained knowledge, skills with other members.

5. Masters the language she uses for communication in a way that their ideas provide sufficient evidence.
Recognises her own limitation in communication and seeks assistance from others or self-study to improve.
Makes use of media and technology to be widely informed and improve or facilitate broader communication.
Interpret non-verbal communication like symbols, gestures, etc. and take appropriate action to identify problems or prevent potential problems.
Uses various communication skills to seek and give information.
Mixes well with other disciplines beyond nursing to increase her own knowledge and share with others.

Assessment Criteria associated with Critical Cross-Field Outcomes:

1. Solve problems by exploring and assessing direct and indirect factors relevant to nursing.
Solve health related problems by providing alternative strategies to deal with those problems at primary, secondary and tertiary level of care.
Identify health related problems in own and other lives – using case studies.
Use their knowledge and experience to offer suggestion for solving health problems at a community level.

2. Demonstrate evidence of personal skills (tolerance, empathy, listening skills, etc.) in group situations.
Demonstrate respect for the opinion of others through written and/or oral reporting without bias.
Participate as responsible citizens in the life of local and national communities.
Use effective communication skills with the group.
Organise themselves and others into effective working groups.
Be a supportive follower and active group participant.

3. Organise their study plans.
Demonstrate study skills and learning strategies, which suits their personal and professional situation and context.
Think independently and offer evidence to support their decisions.
Assess their own strength and weakness and develop coping strategies.

4. Use resources effectively to suit their individuals’ academic and professional needs.
Collect, collate, analyse and integrate information from a variety of sources.

5. Communicate their ideas and provide supportive evidence.
Recognise own communication, limitations and problems and seek help appropriately.
See, describe and interpret what they come across in appropriate ways.
Assist others to speak for themselves on health related matters.
Use language to critically analyse, evaluate and critique other’s health related ideas.

6. Use scientific methods of investigation, testing and evaluation in nursing/health fields.
Select appropriate health related technology to suit the needs of the individual or group.
Use natural resources in a sustainable way.
Demonstrate a consideration of the ethics involved in health sciences and technology issues.

7. Draw upon their prior knowledge and experience when investigating and analysing the health situation around them.
Demonstrate knowledge of the interconnectedness of factors influencing the achievement of optimal health to find appropriate solutions to health related issues.

Integrated assessment:

1. Continuous evaluation by (formative and summative evaluation) projects, individual and group, portfolios; learning diaries; tests, written and oral, oral presentations, clinical assessment, workplace assessments, simulations, panel assessment.

2. South African Nursing Council written examination and practical examination.
