Assessment criteria associated with Specific Outcomes:
1. The student should be able to:
Promote health by organising awareness campaigns.
Demonstrates knowledge of available community resources.
Identify risk groups and refer to appropriate health services available.
2. Correlate cognitive, psychomotor and affective skills during the assessment of clients, families and communities comprehensively taking into consideration the cultural background of service consumers.
Reach a nursing diagnosis amenable to nursing care according to DSM IV classification.
Predict potential problems associated with the assessment of clients, families and communities e.g. suicide from depression.
3. Prioritise needs/problems of clients using the skills, e.g. critical thinking.
Plan a realistic therapeutic nursing intervention considering cultural differences.
4. Prevent medico-legal hazards in a mental health setting.
Continuously monitor individuals, families and community conditions.
Apply therapeutic nursing skills knowledgeably, competently safely and humanely.
Collaborate with multi-disciplinary team members as per need (referral).
Advocate for health consumers. Observe rights and safety.
Facilitate and monitor adaptation of mentally ill persons into communities and vice-versa.
5. Continuously monitor progress of health consumers.
6. Takes relevant history pertaining to medication.
Observes clients on medication continuously for any toward or untoward reactions.
Gives relevant health education to clients, families and communities.
7. Collects, analyses and interprets data.
Makes relevant recommendations.
Implementation of findings.
8. Empowers self and community about available community health projects to improve financial status.

Integrated assessment to ensure that the purpose of the qualification is achieved:
Formative evaluation:
Tests, continuous assessment, assignments and hospital examinations.
Summative evaluation:
South African Nursing Council Examinations.
OSCE (Objective Structured Clinical Examination) on behalf of OSCE.
