Assessment criteria associated with the Critical Cross-Field Outcomes:
1. Able to identify and solve problems by means of assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating and recording.
2. Interact harmoniously with other team members.
3. Give relevant information to the public and all members of the health team.
4. Behave within the boundaries of the law of the country and of the profession.
5. Interact freely with people of different cultural backgrounds.
Assessment criteria associated with the Specific Outcomes:
1. Concise documentation of needs/problems of individuals/groups.
2. Identify relevant target groups for health education and applies health education principles.
3. Record and report accurately and promptly and plan nursing interventions relevantly.
4. Respond appropriately to emergency situations and other nursing interventions.
5. Demonstrate sensitivity to people of different cultures.
6. Demonstrate professional behaviour;
Take responsibility and accountability within the limits of own competence and relevant scope of practice.
7. Identify health related problems in the environment;
Use knowledge and experience of environmental health to offer suggestions for solving health related problems in the community.
8. Demonstrate safe and correct administration of medication;
Demonstrate correct storage, safekeeping and recording of prescribed medication;
Assess patients’ response to medication and make appropriate referral;
Practice within the legal framework of relevant legislation and institutional policies.
Integrated assessment to ensure that the purpose of the qualification is achieved:
Formative assessment through:
Continuous assessment, i.e. practical and theoretical assessment.
Summative assessment, i.e.:
Theoretical assessment by South African Nursing Council and Nursing School;
Practical assessment by the Nursing School.
