Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 1:
Maps and other source documents are used to locate and identify major tourist destinations, attractions and events in South Africa’s nine provinces including Lesotho and Swaziland.
Promotional materials are designed for the local community of South Africa’s nine provinces and of Lesotho and Swaziland.
Advice is given to both business and leisure customers on all aspects of travel within Southern Africa and Central Africa.
A trip is structured according to the customers’ needs and budget, bookings are made and the documentation necessary for travel is obtained.

Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 2:
Tourism is defined in appropriate terms and in different contexts.
Tourist attractions and tourist-related facilities at various destinations are identified and described as a component of the tourism product.
Accessibility is defined and described as a component of the tourism product.
Price is contextualised as a component of the tourism product.
Tourism is understood as a sustainable resource requiring responsible tourism development.
Role-players in the tourism system as well as attractions, accommodation, transport, intermediaries and private and public sector support services are identified.

Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 3:
Strategic planning processes are understood and described.
A typical tourism company’s vision and mission or purpose are defined and compiled.
Environmental scanning is defined and applied.
Strategic analysis and choice of management applications in the tourism environment are undertaken.
Organisational objectives are identified, the strategic control process is described and tourism strategy is implemented.

Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 4:
Different types of research used in tourism and their differences are understood.
Steps in the marketing research process are listed and explained.
Main sources of tourism data are identified.
The advantages and disadvantages of conducting secondary data collection are assessed.
The advantages and disadvantages of various types of survey methods are compared.
The importance of customer satisfaction research is understood.
The importance of questionnaire layout, structure and presentation is demonstrated.
A well-structured marketing research report is produced.

Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 5:
The role of distribution channels within the industry is understood.
The role played by tour operators, travel agents, and other tourism intermediaries is explained.
The impact of information technology on distribution channels is explained.
The factors that influence the choice of distribution channels in various sectors of the Southern African tourism industry are explained.

Integrated Assessment:
The institution is responsible for the setting of formative and summative assessment tools. The marking of assignments, projects and examinations marks is carried out in accordance with the pre-determined Associated Assessment Criteria. Assessment marks will be moderated and verified.

Formative Assessment:
Formative assessment methods include:
Class Tests.
Semester Tests.
Practical projects/assignments.
Research and project based assignments.

Summative Assessment:
Summative assessment method include:
Semester Examination.

Summative assessment is making a judgement about achievement. Learner-readiness determines whether a learner will qualify for the examinations. It is required that the assignments are submitted in order to write an examination in each module.

Summative assessment occurs:
At the end of each study cycle of learning.
Is used to determine whether the learner is competent in the required knowledge and skills.

Summative assessments are moderated per module of learning, in order for all learners to be fairly assessed against the Exit Level Outcomes.
